Berkeley Korean-American Alumni Association

Welcome to the Berkeley Korean-American Alumni Association. BKAA is a chapter of the California Alumni Association comprised of Korean Americans and those who have an interest in the Korean American community of all ages.

Mission

  • Our Mission is to connect, empower, and support our Alumni to live to their fullest potential through the intercultural integration of self, family, and their professional careers

Vision

  • Our vision is to create a Thriving Alumni society deeply committed to cultivating fellowship and lifelong learning so that we can contribute profoundly to the prosperity and growth of Cal Korean Americans, Cal alumni, and those with whom we interact

Values

  1. Life-long learning and giving

    • We believe in the power of ideas and the importance of learning as a fundamental aspect of a creative life

    • It is a joyous and sometimes frightening process, but it unlocks for each individual, new possibilities which helps us manifest the new realities we seek

    • While most stop learning after graduating, we exist to promote lifelong learning and actively create opportunities to do so

2. Fraternity, Friendship, and Fun

  • We believe in the power of fellowship to transform ourselves and our society

  • We recognize the incredible value of mentors and guides who present themselves along our journey to help solve issues and dilemmas that we otherwise could not alone

  • We create authentic opportunities to celebrate identity and facilitate “life” conversations

3. Aspiration and dynamism

  • We believe in the foundational aspirations of UC Berkeley

  • Berkeley stands for excellence and belief in the power of ideas.  It's aim was to find young people in our society that over indexed with respect to challenging the status quo, lifelong learning, thinking beyond oneself, and confidence without attitude

  • Berkeley distinguished itself from the nation's other elite universities through its unique, publicly funded model that was capable of training and cultivating leaders at a larger scale that private institutions could not.  It sought to unleash potential at a scale that others could not imagine.  In this way, it would contribute to the greater good of California and America as a whole

  • We are all indebted to this institution, one of the greatest vehicles for upward mobility and social impact that the world has ever known

4. Diversity and respect for others

  • We believe in the power of relationships and meaningful connections yielding greater understanding of our cultural history and narratives

  • We seek to grow in awareness and appreciation of our varied backgrounds culturally, professionally, and personally that would foster greater respect and appreciation for others

  • We seek a diverse and dynamic ecosystem of associations that can enable us to grow together

5. Ggang! (Boldness or Chutzpah)
